StartupNation…pull up a chair!

We’re not going to lie to you. It’s a bit rough out there for us right now. Honestly, it’s probably going to get a lot worse in the coming weeks. You are probably dealing with either having to close your doors for the sake of the public or maybe invoices aren’t getting paid because people are more cautious about where they spend their money.

We get it….it really sucks right now, and you are probably thinking about where you go from here.

We have a few ideas!

First, ask yourself why did you start this journey…

StartupNation, we often hear that success is the result of hard work and facing adversity. However, not everyone has the right attitude or work ethic that is required to make that happen. And when you are a new entrepreneur, it’s something you have to learn, get used to, or develop more. It’s common to daydream, avoid work, or procrastinate. Since we have been enduring a pandemic on top of that, many other distractions come to mind. A strong work ethic is useful and admired, ultimately building the type of business or life you want to develop. …

Let’s be honest class, the second half of your senior year did not go as planned. A global pandemic disrupted senior festivities like prom and senior trips for those in high school and my college seniors were deprived of that last walk of their college campus as students. No hanging out at the university center and going around shaking the hands of your professors, soon to be colleagues in your many fields of endeavor; however, you didn’t let that deter from the plan. You continued to do the work. You logged in to continue classwork…

When people consider investing in a business, there is one key indicator that they are looking for that helps make the decision — market value. They want to see if you are viable in your industry in the way of production and they want to see if there is room to continue pace or even grow. So when it comes to Dak Prescott wanting more money I have to agree with him and his agent. I get that it's a lot of money but we value sports in this country and he should get his check at market value.

One…

Famed columnist Mitch Albom tells the story of walking around Ann Arbor with Chris Webber trying to get a story. I guess Webber had not eaten and was hungry, so he asked Albom for some money for food. Albom explained to him that it would be against NCAA rules to do that, so they kept walking. As they continued, Webber saw his jersey, a yellow #4 Michigan jersey with Webber’s name on the back.

It was selling for $75.

Albom said it was at that moment that he knew that Webber, who had led the Wolverines to two national title…

It has come to my attention that some people are up in arms about the LSU Tigers football team’s new locker room. Some have suggested that so much money should not have been spent on a locker room at an institution of higher learning. While I do understand the other side of this argument, I will have to disagree on the notion of deservedness. If anyone deserves a new locker room of this magnitude down in Baton Rouge, its the team that plays it home games in a home stadium affectionately known as “Death Valley.”

The LSU football team, while…

Let me start off by saying that I am so proud of all of you. You have faced many challenges over the past couple of years from rigorous course work, tackling exams, balancing extracurriculars and more. It’s was not always easy and yet here you are on the precipice of -more than likely your first of- what I hope to be many life achievements that you will always cherish. You may have thought that you weren’t going to make it and yet here you are, a graduate. Class of 2019, as many will challenge you this season to do your…

Inspired by my speaking engagement from the 2019 Maximizing Manhood Syposium

I want to thank Lekethan Mason for hosting this fantastic event, The Halloran Centre for hosting us here, the tremendous speakers you are going to hear from this evening and tomorrow, the parents, teachers, and mentors that brought a young person with them. Lastly, I want to thank you the young people for accepting the invitation to come. I thank you because your presence here speaks volumes. It says that you are ready to write your own story and create the destiny that you seek. That is a power that can forge the path of real change in our community…

There are people that come into your life sometimes, and they make a more significant impact than you anticipated. They swoop in just being their usual selves all the while they are installing in you something bigger, something better. It creates this thing that either you never knew you had in you or reminded you that it was there when you forgot every once in a while. For me, it happened on a cold Saturday back in January of 2017. I met Jason for the first time at his office to have him as a guest for my show. Before…

On Nov. 6, 1982, you welcomed me into the world with open arms. You made the first moments of my life a pleasant and smooth transition. You didn’t care about what I looked like or my tax bracket. All you knew was that I was apart of you and that I was going to need your help.

Thank you.

From there you set me up with many programs. Starting with a place to stay. I learned a lot growing up in the Lamar Terrace projects like how to be tough and to look out for my fellow neighbor. The assistance…
